Knowing how to provide emergency first aid to a child should the worst ever happen is a vital and necessary skill to have. And for many who work with young children, it’s an essential requirement of their job role. It goes without saying that having these skills could literally save a child’s life one day.
It is ideal for parents and relatives, particularly pre-school and nursery staff, toddler group volunteers, childminders, nannies, au pairs, foster parents, or anyone who may need to deliver first aid as part of their role.
The qualification will help learners become familiar with the role of the paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react appropriately to an emergency situation.
The qualification is valid for 3 years, after which it will need to be retaken. It is also recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually. This course is certified by Highfield Qualifications.
The Emergency Paediatric First Aid course covers the following modules:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
- Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are unresponsive
- Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are choking
- Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock
- Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with bites, stings and minor injuries

This course is assessed with a multiple-choice exam and practical assessment.
